The Flotilla 11-2 Color Guard is made up of six highly-motivated members of the flotilla who are proud to provide Color Guard and other services as requested.
Since their first 'gig', retiring the colors at the 2007 U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Fall Conference in Rochester, Minnesota, the team has served as color guard for the conferences in Dubuque, IA and Peoria, IL. In September they will be travelling to Branson, Missouri for the Eighth Western Rivers Fall Conference.
In addition to the district conferences, they have provided the Color Guard for the Division 11 Change of Watch, the United States Power Squadrons Fall District Conference, and twice for the Nordic-American Thanksgiving Breakfast. They have pending requests for additional US Power Squadrons and NATB events.
They presented the colors at the July 27th Minnesota Twins baseball game against the Chicago White Sox at the HHH Metrodome in Minneapolis. They are scheduled for two more Twins games this season on August 11th and September 11th.
The team practices regularly at a facility generously provided by Sons of Norway in Minneapolis. In addition to Color Guard, they are also working to position themselves to assist the Active Duty Coast Guard in funeral duties. They are inspired by the Coast Guard Ceremonial Color Guard stationed in Washington, D.C., and take advantage of the training aids that that unit has placed on their website.
The current Color Guard members are Neil McMillin, Craig Campbell, John Peterson, Matt Stokes, Ted Whitten and Wright Truesdell, Commander.
